In sandy soil conditions wellpoint spears are generally used to pump the water away from the site .On the other hand, sump pumps are utilised if the ground contains clay and rock sediments due to the differences in permeability. The pumps used and soil conditions are the factors which will determine the rate of the water that spears draw out of the site. soils that are fine will have less pores for water to travel between which will decrease the water flow. Alternatively large sand soils will have plenty of pores between each grain and therefore will allow a generous of flow of water which will mean a faster draw-down and higher discharge of water.
The permeability is significantly lower in conditions with the clay and sump pumps provides more effective solutions at drawing the water. As the permeability rate of the clay is lower, generally the water will not seep through the clay and underneath the clay there will be sand or other layers. Sump pumps provides a good solution to pump the water out of the location. Sump pumps are generally used for bodies of water and are simple and easy to use.
